High Tech Crosswalks

We’re sure you remember your days as a tot, when crossing the street meant a manly woman dressed in crossing guard garb and a suicide run across a yellow ladder pedestrian line. School Zone is a concept crosswalk that hopes to improve on safety and design for both children and drivers.
The School Zone has an elevated platform design which allows drivers to more easily spot children as they cross (hopefully its not some psycho that is TRYING to run down children) while also providing a speed bump-like ascent. Each School Zone has LEDs that correspond to crosswalk signals, informing pedestrians that they only have a certain amount of time to cross, and letting them know when they should wait it out.

Live22

The Life 22 is attempting to create a completely new type of phone. Currently phones are used soley to contact other peoeple. The Live 22 plans to broaden phone’s capabilites to communicate. It has 3 different modes. The first contacting other phones. The second, rather than only contacting other phones, it plans to communicate with every device in an environment. The Contextual Text Mode allows the user to send messages to a computer, tv, iPod, and any other device. The third mode of this phone is the most impressive. It is called “Glance” and it allows you to remotely observe the environment. This means that by looking at your phone you are able to see who is there, and what is going on in your area. Here at Tech Pudde we can only pray that the Live 22 concept will someday become a reality.

Brix Phone

The Brix phone might just be a concept at this point in time, but the idea behind this concept is definitely interesting enough to warrant a commercial production. The whole front surface makes up a touchscreen, allowing you to access all your contacts, messages, and multimedia files via a touch-based interface. What makes the Brix special is the ability to string with another Brix, doubling the screen real estate in an instant. Heck, even a temporary virtual shared folder is created, bringing content from both devices together until they're disconnected. The best part would be chaining a virtually unlimited number of Brix handsets to form a really large (and probably expensive) TV. iPhone who?

Actual, out-in-the-field reporters have the benefit of breathing fresh air every day. This little toolkit concept, the handiwork of Benjamin Kuhn, includes a small video camera, audio recorder and a tablet-like thing for jotting notes while out and about. The tablet doesn’t look as compact as you might expect, but its glossy design ranks right up there with the MacTab we saw earlier.



You’d be a one-man guerilla journalist with this thing. Set up a YouTube account to share your stories and you’d probably draw better ratings than Katie Couric.

Our awesome artist's impressions, part of the future tech feature in the new issue of T3 Magazine, showcase a Wii headset accessory that uses brainwaves to control characters and also feature immersive in-ear headphones. Sweet.
We've also imagined a streamlined Wii Remote with just the one button. You point and press, your frontal lobes do the rest.
Brain-wave technology is already becoming a reality with Emotiv pioneering in-game systems, but our crystal ball of gadge is advising us to stick a few quid on Nintendo knocking-out the first mind-controlled console on the market.

SLideon MP3 Player

It is a no brainer to finally see an MP3 player designed after a cellphone, taking some notes from slider handsets and ending up with the Slideon MP3 player concept. Ian Murchison's brainchild hides all the controls under the geometric display - an aesthetically pleasing idea, but dedicated external control buttons would have been a much better idea. After all, most people prefer not to fiddle with levers, slides, and what-nots when it comes to their music, as getting straight to the point is much more important. Other features of the Slideon include flash-based memory and a battery which is recharged via its headphone jack.

EMS

Ah orchestra. Twas not long ago when I was playing in a band and one of my biggest peeves was carrying butt loads of sheet music. The EMS (E-paper Music Score) solves that mess by using E-paper technology. This single flexible screen can be unrolled and feed sheet music via bluetooth from a computer. Best part is the included foot peddle which virtually turns the pages. Clever clever.
